Arctica Exploring the Poles

Before tackling the race towards the North Pole, 19th century explorers had another aim: to locate a passage, free from ice, to link the Pacific to the Atlantic, running along the North Canadian coastline. This shortcut, promising to lead to the opening of new, lucrative trade routes, had haunted all adventures who undertook to search for the famous "Nortwest Passage".
